Kelly Kahukiwa is an artist, musician, intercultural practitioner and indigenous researcher.
He is the vision holder and project leader for Te Reo Ngaro o te Rākau - The Hidden Voices of Trees Project. He enjoys investigating ways in which Matauranga Māori, Arts and Sciences can network to find solutions to the environmental challenges which stem from human disconnectedness from our environment. His tribal affiliations are Ngāti Io, Ngāti Whakaue, Ngai Tūhoe and Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki. |
Ariane Craig Smith is an arts manager, curator, writer and mother who grew up in the wilds of the Bay of Islands and currently resides in Auckland. Formerly Programme Manager - Visual Arts for Auckland Arts Festival (2015, 2013 and 2011), and ARTSPACE 2007 Curatorial Intern, she has also worked in children and family programming roles at Auckland Museum and Auckland Art Gallery. In 2013 she established The Kauri Project with Chris McBride, to use art as a tool for advocacy and education around kauri and forest health alongside science and mātauranga Māori. As The Kauri Project they have curated multiple exhibitions across the kauri region, led walks, talks and other events. Ariane is passionate about native plants - and about the role of arts in facilitating connection, expression and understanding about our world.
